In today's segment we are dealing with misquoted bible scriptures. So often we quote what we hear rather than studying the word of God for ourselves. 2 Timothy 2:15 says: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (the greek meaning for dividing is,to teach the truth directly and correctly.) In other words it simply means you have to know the word to teach it directly and correctly. Let's get started: One of the main scriptures we quote so often is God will throw your sins in the sea of forgetfulness. (misquote) Micah 7:19 says: He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. 2. God has giving us authority to tread over serpents and scorpions, also to speak to the mountains, we so often use this verse, speak those things that be not as though they were, this is how Romans 4:17 says it: (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. So this tells me that it is God who calls these things into existence not us. (misquote) 3. Here's one that we have been using through out the years when we are facing hard times in our lives, (God won't put no more on us than we our able to bear.) That actually came from the Koran. Our bible says it like this, 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. So this leads me to believe if there is a situation, trial or any other problem that We are facing God will provide an escape that we are able to endure. (misquote) 4. Here's one that sounds real good but it's not found in our bible, (where there is unity, there is strength.) I've heard preachers quote this saying for many years so one day I was preparing my sermon and I was looking for this particular verse and couldn't find it that's what lead me to begin studying for myself. 5. Now this verse has kept a lot of saints from prospering, money is the root of all evil. That's not bible, 1 Timothy 6:10 says it like this: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. That one key word changed the whole verse LOVE. When we start loving the money it makes us do thing we wouldn't ordinarily do (example,) it will make us kill, turn our backs on love ones, and do harm to people. .(misquote) 6. We have been taught that God said a liar won't tarry in His sight, if you read Psalms 101:7 that was actually david who said that, He was talking to God. So in my conclusion, hear the word but study it for yourself.
